Volunteers are an integral part of the services they provide to clients at Austin Free-Net. They utilize the help of volunteers to train and mentor their clients, as well as to support the administrative operations of their organization.

What skills do I need? Can you send an e-mail? Do you like lending a hand? Do you have experience in a technology career? Any of these items qualifies you to volunteer! Volunteers are their lifeblood and there are many ways that you can help.

Volunteers assist in the roles of:

Volunteer Technology Adviser– Advisers help clients who come into the technology access labs. In this role, you may help someone set up an email or Facebook account, search for a job online, write a resume, find a bus route, and much more.

Volunteer Technology Trainer –  Trainers assist clients in scheduled classes and workshops. In this role, you may assist AFN instructors to deliver classes and workshops about technology topics, making sure that everyone who attends is able to succeed. Trainers may also offer their own classes and workshops at our training sites, with the support of our staff to provide lesson plans, training materials, and coaching.

Volunteer IT Mentor – Students in our ACCELERATE IT certification program are in need of mentors who can help provide additional hands on experience and insight into navigating their new careers in IT.

Administrative Support Volunteer – They rely on volunteers to help with office duties, outreach, and promotional events.
