In Memory of Della Sprager
It is with much sadness that we share with you the passing away of former co-worker and friend, Della Sprager. Della worked for Travis County for 15 years. She created and maintained the Childhood Immunization Program for the Travis County RSVP program and she was dedicated to educating young mothers about the importance of vaccinations.
Not only did Della recruit and promote the benefits of volunteering, but she was a dedicated volunteer as well. In her lifetime she volunteered at the Austin Symphony, AGE of Central TX, Lifetime Learning Institute, the Texas Performing Arts Center, Meals on Wheels and More, Drive A Senior, Neighborhood Ambassador Program, Volunteers for Childhood Immunization, We Care and for UT RFSA (University of Texas Retired Faculty and Staff).
Della lived an adventurous life and often shared stories about her life and travels to Brazil, Japan, and Mexico. She was passionate and curious about other cultures and history and earned her Ph.D. in Anthropology in the History of Science and Technology from the University of Texas at the age of 57.
Della lived in Austin for 47 years and enjoyed living in a vibrant city. She loved books, antiques, thrift stores, theater and music, lunch with her friends, learning, traveling with her partner Darwin, and enjoying her retirement.
Della is survived by her children, Kevin and Lorena, her granddaughter Sofia, and her partner Darwin. She was loved and admired by the many staff and volunteers she met throughout her work with RSVP and Travis County. We will miss your infectious laugh and your thoughtful and humorous observations about life. Thank you for your friendship Della, you’ll be missed.
