Sunrise Community Church needs volunteers to help in their Navigation Center. The Homeless Navigation Center serves many people every day and volunteers are a huge part of making sure the program is successful.
Volunteers are needed working in the Cafe serving food and coffee, Mon-Fri from 8:30 am -1:30 pm. The volunteer can pick a day or two a week to come in each week and whatever shift they want (either the full shift or the morning (8:30-11:00 or 11:00-1:30). Volunteers are also needed to cook food. A volunteer can pick the food up at the Navigation Center, cook it, and return it to Sunrise, or they can cook food they have at home and take it to Sunrise. Examples include sandwiches, casseroles, desserts, spaghetti, macaroni and cheese, and salads. From time to time, they need volunteers to pick up donated food.
Sunrise Community Church is in weekly communication with the City of Austin. In addition to supplying some food, the City has provided hand-washing stations and porta potties on their property to give clients the ability to stay clean and use the restroom.
Sunrise has made efforts to keep the volunteers from having contact with the clients. Sunrise is committed to taking the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 while also being able to get food to south Austin’s unsheltered neighbors.
